Julie Miles Ceramics

Functional and sculptural ceramics inspired by nature

Landscape and nature inspire Julie Miles in her work as an artist. Working in pencil, ink and watercolour preliminary drawings inform the clay work using a range of clays from robust stoneware, heavily grogged brick clays and the more refined porcelain to reflect the fragility and delicateness of nature. Vases and vessels are hand crafted and hand decorated with Julies original drawings reflecting the flora of the area making each individual and unique. Stoneware is sculpted from flat slabs of clay in the style of faux taxidermy, stags heads, hares, a range of garden birds sand currently a number of dog commissions are on going

Work produced to commission or for exhibition using a mix of porcelain and brick clays.
Porcelain is used very finely to produce vessel forms that are exhibited widely and also to create large scale installation pieces for exhibition. Brick clay is used to create large scale brick commissions for Marks and Spencers & Ibstock in Leeds, a convent in Royal Birkdale and a community centre/church near Telford.

Worked in schools and with teachers to help teach the curriculum through creativity and have worked for arts organisations such as Mid Pennine Arts, Green Close Studios, Curious Minds, Haworth Art Gallery to the Ranger service creating trails, sculptures for the outdoors.
